Die and mold components

High-precision cutting processes for ultra-hard die and mold components

Rhine Seiko specializes in machining die and mold components, especially cold forging and resin molding dies made to ultra-hardened specifications with micron-level smoothness and machining tolerances.

Rhine Seiko manufactures metal die and mold components such as punches and dies as well as non-regular components such as split molds, using conventional materials as well as specialty materials such as cemented carbide and ceramics. We have products to suit every purpose and application.

Materials used

Die steel Various
High-speed steel (HSS) SKH51~SKH57
Powdered HSS Up to HRC70
Cemented carbide Various
Ceramic Various
Note: Pre and post heat treatment is available for rush jobs only given that we have heat treatment equipment in-house.

【1】High-precision cold forging split dies

Cold forging press dies

Composition SKD 11 die steel
Hardness HRC60~63
Size φ125×65mm
Accuracy Circularity, cylindricity and concentricity relative to diameter all within ±0.0015 mm

Exceptional accuracy with circularity, cylindricity and concentricity relative to diameter all within ±0.0015 mm

Given that split molds are separated in half, it is imperative to prevent deformation of both sides during machining processes.

Expert operators using clamping tools produced in-house to ensure the highest standards of accuracy.

【2】Segment die

Segment die

Composition Cemented carbide
Size φ60
Accuracy Concentricity relative to inner diameter within ±0.01 mm, lap finish

Mirror surface finishing with surface roughness of Ra = 15 nm max on both inner and outer diameters

Forging segment dies for double-flange component with gear on one side

Segment dies split into multiple pieces to enable the pressed workpiece to be removed. With our longstanding experience and expertise in polishing processes, both inner and outer diameters are polished to a mirror finish.

Polishing/finishing via gear shaping post heat treatment, with outer diameter taper of 15° ± 10” and lapping finish for smoothness to enable sliding with casing surface.

【3】Press fit/shrink fit

Metal die for ceramic powder molding

Composition SKD61 die steel
Hardness HRC47
Accuracy ±0.01mm

Press fit of 10 mm ceramic using shrink fit process

The shrink fit process can cause 10 mm ceramic to break.

For cases in particular, the temperature must be carefully controlled.

We have considerable experience and expertise with ceramics including damage-free shrink fitting processes.

We have also significantly reduced procurement lead times by coordinating technical requirements with our ceramics suppliers.
